There is a website called Shelfari, but I'm not sure it's got features for meeting new people--just keeping track of what friends are reading (you get to see their reviews). Your comment reminds me of the time that the BF and I toyed with the idea of trying speed dating just because it sounded like fun and neither of us had ever tried it. Sadly, we decided that a) that's obviously unethical, b) we'd have to list everyone we met as a match to get a real idea of which of us was more desired--competing with each other, after all, being half the point of doing it, and c) we'd be totally obviously exchanging looks with each other all night whenever the person we were on a "date" with said something stupid.
