So I totally missed the deadline for DM’s Spring Fling blogging contest – work has been crazy – how is it my problem that the day before a deadline everyone who was supposed to submit an annual review didn’t know how to combine multiple documents into a single PDF file? Sigh. However, I mentioned it was the BF’s birthday, and since a) he’s a spring chicken/Aries and I wanted you all to know how it ended up going down anyway, I thought I’d combine the two occasions into one fabulous post. Ahhhh! This whole vegetarian experiment is just making me angry!! This is by far the hardest month-long experiment I’ve ever done, much harder than when I quit drinking or abstained from sex. Oops, wasn’t supposed to mention that last part.
I’m going vegetarian for the month of March. No, seriously, I am. I’m a big nasty meat eater, so this is a big deal for me. There were two factors that persuaded me to try it:
- Honey’s post about National Justice for Animals Week.
- We had a guest speaker at my sports club recently and he spoke a lot about nutrition, and in particular, dietary habits for sports performance. As part of that, he explained in graphic terms why he would only eat beef from free roaming cows. I was pretty grossed out to hear how regular cows are treated and fed, so this pushed me over the edge.
I figured I would try it for at least a month and see how it affected my energy levels, training, and competitive performance. For the hardcore vegans out there, I realize a month is pretty weak, especially considering I’m still eating fish and eggs, but hey you got to start somewhere. Don’t hate. Continued
A second brief tangent from sex and relationships, though I promise to post on my Valentine’s Day as well!
February 22-28 marks the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s first-ever National Justice for Animals Week, to raise awareness for those who are abused and neglected but can’t speak for themselves. Check out ALDF’s website for more information and activities being held around the country on this issue as well as updates on the good work that ALDF does on behalf of abused and neglected animals.
When Lance told me that he was going to write a post to participate in Blog Action Day 08 to talk about poverty, I was right there with him. This is not only because it’s an extraordinarily important issue (which it is), but because with the way that the economy is going right now, poverty is becoming more than an idea to many Americans–it’s being redefined as it becomes many people’s reality. Wow! Lance’s kinky sextacular has me all jealous. Though I haven’t been playing durty games in shady hotel rooms on the beach, things have gotten somewhat better since my last post. I’ve managed to sleep off the majority of my new-job exhaustion, and the BF has been really good about trying to get to bed at a reasonable hour even on the weekend. This Monday he even got up for work when I did, which has never happened before.
We’re still not having sex quite as much as I would like, but we are managing to get in some solid nooky in in the weekends (including more pool sex…that thing is like an aphrodisiac, I can’t believe that we haven’t been using it more in the last year we’ve been at this place). We managed to even work in a weekday last week, so I have high hopes that we’re on our way to getting a rhythm in place. Continued
