Ouch. It didn’t start out that way – I woke up the other morning with a sore neck. This happens periodically if I sleep funny (and I think I’d ended up in the spare bedroom for part of that night because Jake took the good sleeping pills and was snoring…and that bed’s not nearly as nice/comfortable). So I didn’t think too much of it.
But then the next day I went out for sushi and happy hour with a couple of friends and when I got back and saw Jake on the couch, I was overcome and we ended up having crazy sex on the bathroom floor (and P.S., why didn’t I ever realize before that if you have sex in a doorway, you can brace yourself at all sorts of angles that are otherwise impossible?). My job interview for the faculty position was Thursday, and while it’s very tough (for me, anyway) to gauge people’s reactions when I can’t see them, I can say that I dropped the names I wanted to drop, mentioned the aspects of my skills I wanted to mention, and we’ll see what happens! When I e-mailed my dissertation chair and told him about the interview, he immediately cleared space in his schedule so we could chat on the phone, nail down my talking points, and practice some questions, and it was definitely a big help.
They say they’ll get back to me in a week or two and let me know if I’m advancing on to the next round or not. I’m solid either way because 1) it was such an unbelievable coup to get interviewed at all that I’m riding high, and 2) if I don’t advance then it means that Jake is free to look for a job out of state in the new year. Either outcome is pretty awesome by me! Continued

Well, we had a fantatic time, lost all our money, ate too much food, and got sore feet walking around. That’s Vegas! Here are the highlights of our time:
Thursday Night: Karaoke and Hot Sex

So, the BF and I are going to go to Vegas for Memorial weekend. Our flight leaves Phoenix around 6:30 p.m. (I have a half day at work, woot!) on Thursday and we should arrive in Vegas before 8 p.m. Here’s our itinerary, for those who are interested/jealous:
- We are staying at Binion’s on Fremont Street (the Old Strip, where casinos are closer together and hotel rooms are $40 per night)
- Le Reve at the Wynn on Friday night
- All-venue passes at The Palms, which includes Moon (retractable roof), Rain (where we will see DJ Paul Oakenfold spin), and Ghostbar, rooftop bar home of celebrities and panoramic views
- Brunch at Hash House A Go Go
- Karaoke at some point (venue not yet selected)
- And, for me,
$600 of my Federal Tax Return to be spent on Pai Gow, Let it Ride, slot machines (especially my favorite, The Enchanted Unicorn), craps, and roulette
All with my best friend and her husband, who I haven’t seen in over a year and a half! Wish us luck, should be a great time!

It’s been a whirlwind week! Here’s what’s going on in Honey-land.
At my recommendation (I’d seen it before), I took the BF to see Stomp. If you haven’t seen this show, which includes a variety of dancing, percussion, and comedy (despite no dialogue) I highly recommend it. The show was sold-out and a great experience, PLUS I wore a really cleavage-revealing dress that, in the BF’s words, “made me giggle” because he gets to openly ogle them. (This was obviously part of the plan. I’d put edible glitter on them, after all!).

Oh, dudes, the beauty of unemployment. Since I went over 3 months without a job last summer (and since I hired an accountant to do my taxes this year) I am getting back about $2500 on my federal and (for the first time!) state income taxes.
What are my plans for the moolah, you ask? Well, here’s the breakdown:
