This post was inspired by The Beautiful Kind’s (TBK) blog entitled, Can Creepy Men Be Cured? Before I jump into it, I want to say that I’m a major fan of TBK, not just because of all the hot sex talk going on over there, but because her advice and perspectives on sex and relationships are edgy and real. She’s like the antithesis of mainstream bullshit relationship advice you find on a 1000 other sites on the net. If you want to keep it real and have fun doing it, subscribe to her blog.

This weekend in Orlando was the 21 Convention, one of the larger pickup conventions in the country. This one featured four days of speakers and several nights worth of going out and bootcamping. Unfortunately, I was out-of-town on a trip for almost the whole thing, returned on Saturday night, and I at least made it down to the convention on Sunday. My hope was to be able to hear Jason Savage speak, who’s blog I discovered very recently and became a fan of. I missed his presentation, did at least meet him and a few others, and it’s my hope to be able to do interviews with him and a couple of the coaches. Stay tuned for that.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting up with Anthony Johnson, aka Dream, one of the top young social artists in the country and the organizer of the 21 Convention. The 21 Convention, originally started as a pickup convention for guys under the age of 21, has evolved into a full blown, all-inclusive event that covers attraction, fitness, nutrition, and personal development. Dream and his team are working hard to make the 21 Convention the biggest and best recurring event on attraction in the world, and with their projected lineup of top shelf speakers, they may achieve that lofty goal this summer. Read more about the 21 Convention and see the lineup at the21convention.com.
I originally found Dream through his blog, The Dream Lounge. There were two things that separated Anthony from the rest of the pack of blogging PUA’s. Firstly, he was young, 19 at the time I started reading. Dream’s stuff was fresh, intelligent, and he tackled his subjects with curiosity and a critical eye. Secondly, he didn’t just write about picking up chicks. His blog delved into life hacking, fitness, and a variety of other subjects. You can find the old blogspot version of his blog here and the new Dreamlounge.net here. I recommend them both. One of my absolute favorite posts, the one that prompted me to ask him for an interview, is where he talks about ditching shoes and trying barefoot running.

Discovered this little gem on Mashable.com, I’m adding it to my game immediately.

Contxts are cool text message “business cards” that anyone with a cell phone can access. You set up an account, chose a handle, fill out your contact info, and start giving folks (re: chicks) your username. When someone sends a text with your username to 50500, they get back a text that contains the info you punched into your Contxt account. Typical info would include name, phone number, email, Twitter ID, Facebook ID, IM name, etc etc. You get 140 characters to play with, so really you can put anything in there. Simple and easy.
This way you either ditch the business cards entirely or supplement with Contxts.
Also, it’s totally free. Nice.

Okay, so let’s say you’re single and not quite ready for the hyper-competitive environments of the bar and club scene. There are plenty of alternative places you can go to practice your social skills and find dates.
Before I get to that list, I do want to say that the fastest way to increase your social skill is to hit the bars and clubs and mix it up there. Make as many approaches as you can and bank the experience. You’re going to get blown out, but suck it up because it’s part of the learning process. With that being said, I can totally understand if the club environment is intimidating and discourages you from making approaches. Continued
