As I’ve mentioned before, Jake and I have quite a bit of student loan and credit card debt. I have less debt than he does overall, but proportionally to each of our incomes we owe about the same.
One of the things that sucks the most about paying off debt is that once you’ve done all the big stuff you can (for example, in February we moved into a house a little more than half the size of our previous place, and we also shuffled around our credit cards so he could get better interest rates – my rates were already pretty awesome) then it’s just a whole lot of sitting and waiting for the paying it off part to be done. Which, in our case, means years. Sucky. However, we have made a bit of progress in this area lately due to some windfalls.

All righty, peeps – I am about to ask your advice about something which has me genuinely torn, and while it doesn’t directly affect my relationship, it certainly has all sorts of possibilities to do so. The reason I’m torn is because I feel like there are two things I want more or less equally, and in some ways they are intertwined and in others they are in direct competition with each other.

This will probably be a pretty anticlimactic post after yesterday’s post on stay at home moms (don’t forget to check out the huge Brazen debate that I took part in…), but I just wanted to let you all know what’s going on in my life! Things have been extremely hectic. I finished revising my dissertation and turned it in, so now all that stands between me and my PhD is paperwork. Awesome! I can’t wait to have the diploma…and my boyfriend can’t wait to call me Dr. Honey!
Also, as I mentioned, we’re moving. It goes down this Saturday…I’ve arranged for Friday and Monday to be furlough days but I am basically going to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off during that time and won’t be able to post (won’t even have internet!) for a couple days at least. Well, due to another three-day holiday weekend, the BF ended up going with me to the grocery store again. This time, however, we spent $298 which is at the upper end but within the budget that I have been using when I go to the grocery store by myself, PLUS he will be contributing towards half of the pet costs so it looks like things have righted themselves. As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, I’ve been out of the blogosphere a little bit of late. Sorry for sticking you with no one but Lance for so long, but I had some pretty crazy stuff going on. However, for some pretty depressing reasons, I should have plenty of time to blog for the forseeable future! Here’s what’s been going on with me.
The Internet Ate My Homework Post
In my last post, My Boyfriend’s Mother, Me Thinks made the observation that the BF is weird about money, as evidenced by the huge blowout we had over the groceries (see Snowboarding, Sickness, and a Breakdown at the Grocery Store). I have given this idea a lot of thought and even started a blog post about it…a blog post I had nearly finished, but when I hit save, I learned that my computer had disconnected from the internet and the entire thing vanished. This was a 1500 or 2000 word post (and full of pretty insightful shit, if I do say so myself!) so I was extraordinarily bummed to have lost it. Continued

Since the BF grew up here in Phoenix, his immediate family (mom, dad, and brother) still live here. While he has only had to go through the ordeal of flying to my hometown and meeting my dad once, I have had to hang out with his family on numerous occasions (both holiday and casual). While I think that I have done a decent job of, well, being a decent human being that any family would be proud to have included in such occasions, this is not a “how to” post, but a far more interesting and gossipy one.
