Dating has been a complete adventure the last few weeks. At one point, I had dates lined up with four different chicks, four nights in a row. I declared my undying love at least once. Maybe twice. And now I think I have a girlfriend with a chick who’s unemployed and lives with her parents. I’ll explain.

Following up on Honey’s post about safety and my post about keeping it real, I wanted to lay out how I generally do first dates. Much of this involves strategies and tactics that I learned from studying pickup. Keep an open mind, especially if you’re a chick, because this will sound off-putting at first. I’ll draw some conclusions and give recommendations at the end. This post does not cover bar pickups, day game, or other quick seduction methods.

Gary Stock is author of unblinking.com and CIO of technology innovation firm Nexcerpt, Inc. He’s also an online dating veteran and an experimenter and critic of the technology and systems behind the online dating sites. I first discovered him after he left a comment on my post about spotting fake Match.com profiles and then reading his Bad Match series of posts about the scams that are rampant on online dating sites. If any readers are doing online dating or are interested in the subject, I highly recommend reading his posts and then checking out this interview. Take the 10′ and read through this entire thing, because it’s packed with good insight and gives good examples of what the online dating experience is like. This interview is broken into two parts.

Hahahaha! More accolades for Match.com, which is finally getting sued for having fake profiles and sending BS winks and emails to male customers. See this article in the New York Post where Brooklynite Sean McGinn is suing for $5 million, citing the pain and anguish he felt when his emails were unreplied to because they were going to fake accounts. Boo hoo. I love it. Nothing like getting super depressed because you emailed 100 chicks on Match and no one emailed back. UPDATE: McGinn dropped the lawsuit because he was ridiculed massively on the Internet. Really? Too bad, would love to have seen Match get it in the 5-hole on this one. Ironically, he met his current girlfriend on Match. Not even sure what to say about that.

Since we’ve been talking about online dating a lot–see here and here–I’d like to wade in on the subject of fake online profiles. Yeah, you heard me right, fake profiles. If you haven’t figured this out already, there are tons of fakes, spammers, frauds, and psycho douchebags in the world of online dating. Match is an easier game than trolling around on craigslist, but it’s still not very good.
In Orlando, where I live, I’ll probably identify one fakey out of every 30 profiles. There may actually be a few more than that but sometimes they slip under my radar. I find them pretty easy to identify these days, and I’ll get to that in a bit. Continued

When Lance asked me to cobble together a “typical” Match profile written by a dude, I have to say that it turned out to be a bit more difficult than I thought. Why? Well, here are a few typical profiles, lifted straight from the source in their entirety:
I like to have fun Im a layed back fellow that likes to be funny and funny people. I just want a NORMAL GENUIN person to hang out with and enjoy life on a low key level see some things and experience first times. (Horrible Grammer)
You also can’t spell or punctuate, fellow.

(In addition to not being able to spell, I have no friends, and thus must take my own photograph.) Continued
