This post is for my Brazen Careerist peeps, no dirty sex or douchebaggery today. I’m blogging about jobs and stuff.
So the deal is I scored a job with a Web technology startup just under a year ago. I ostensibly do Sales, but as anyone who has ever worked for a startup knows, you wear a lot of different hats in these situations. Besides sales I’ve done some marketing, account management, business development, customer service, SEO, and even a bit of design work. I assist and work with our CEO on a daily basis and I’ve seen all aspects of the business end of the firm. It’s a pretty solid situation to be in.

Well, things are looking up since my last post.
Jake has decided he has too much on his plate to do a real job search at the moment, so he’s calling that off. However, given what went down with his supervisor recently, he has decided to go balls-to-the-wall in terms of his working conditions at his current place. He thinks that there is a good chance that his strategy will pay off, in which case he’d be perfectly happy continuing to be there (it is not the amount of work he does that he objects to, it is a variety of aspects of the environment). If it doesn’t work out and they fire him, then obviously he will have plenty of time to do a big search. Either outcome would be better than the status quo. Continued

So, as I’ve mentioned several times, Jake is really unhappy in his job and would also like to move to another city, since he grew up here and isn’t so much a fan. I understand, as I moved to Arizona in large part to escape Florida, which I think is a humid, touristy pit of hurricanes, mosquitoes, and despair. He was going to wait until January and then start looking, since if he doesn’t include months on his resume that’ll give him the appearance of three years. Continued

Penelope Trunk wrote a thought provoking post yesterday titled When women get power at work, do they use it like men? In it she described meeting an attractive 25-year-old male who she sleeps with and eventually dates. They are in related fields and, since she is well positioned as a career advice guru, she ponders the ethical implications of helping the guy find a job. Also, there is a bit of an age gap (according to her wiki she is 42 ), so she thinks that may be an issue.
It’s a great post, one that intersects work, love, and life, and it’s well worth reading. I love the post because a) it’s pretty hot, and b) it’s complicated and doesn’t fit into any traditional relationship type. There’s even a smattering of pickup in there for you PUA types.
Here’s my take. Continued
