No, not me leaving the blog – the breakup when we were dating! Since I soon won’t be posting anymore, I thought that I’d tell you all the story from my perspective (I’d be pretty interested to hear Lance’s as well).
Lance told the story of the original pickup here, and for the most part it’s pretty accurate. The only mitigating factors worth mentioning:
- I was bored stiff on the date I was on. He was a guy in my yoga class that I’d been friendly with for over a year, and I always thought he was pretty boring. Turns out I was right.
- I don’t remember what Lance said when he walked up either, but I do remember that both my date and I were low on drinks and Lance bought me another beer and, like he said, didn’t say anything to my date at all. I thought it was pretty studly
- When he contacted me in the next day or so, he said that he thought my date was totally lame and that I could do better. I agreed, and he asked me out. Nice! Continued

So recently I mentioned that I met a perfectly cool chick at a 4th of July party and also that I had a first date with her for the following weekend. The first date went 100% awesomely. I nailed every single one of my goals on the list, including the tipsy ass-grab and intense makeout session at the end of the night. It was lovely. Teri is a great gal and I’m super stoked about this one. I’m getting kind of a chub thinking about it.
Post-date, I did a lot of thinking about how first dates and the early-early stages of dating are so volatile. Continued

Last time I checked in I mentioned how I met this cool girl at a 4th of July party. Well, we communicated over Facebook this week and set up a date for drinks this evening. Whoa!! That’s right, an actual first date with a perfectly normal girl that I met not in a bar, club, or crappy dating website. I was starting to think that wasn’t possible. Anyway, I’m pretty psyched because I think we’ll get along great and have a blast.

Well, after ruining Thanksgiving on purpose (by having my wisdom teeth removed) and then ruining Christmas by accident (by thinking that I could cure my UTI on my own only to have things go horribly, horribly wrong) my first goal for 2009 is to not be in any pain or on any unpleasant medications during any of the major holidays! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
But other than those two extremely unfortunate events, 2008 was a very good year. Lance and I have really enjoyed getting this site off the ground and becoming part of such a thoughtful, diverse community. So let’s start off the new year by appreciating the old, shall we? Without further ado, the best of Honey and Lance 2008!

As Lance says here, the perfect date is indeed a blog-worthy subject. I’ve been on many first dates myself (in fact, that was practically all I used to go on) and while I have to agree with Dadshouse that most online daters aren’t terribly original when it comes to first dates, I thought I’d put in my two cents as part of my entry for his First-Date Contest.
I have to agree with Lance that what makes a first date stand out isn’t typically the venue, it’s something electrifying about the company that you’re with. However, it’s hard to be electrified if you don’t craft the scenario at least a little bit to your liking. The anticipation begins before the date. Obviously my best first date in theory was with the BF, since it led to our fantastic relationship. And there were good things and bad things about it–so here I’ll list the good things and the bad, thereby serving as an object lesson in what to do and what not to do, simultaneously. Continued
