Honey’s 2009 Year In Review

I thought that DD’s post on her year in review was a great way to review, encapsulate, and reflect on what had passed, so I decided to give it a go as well.  It seems like the best way to set myself up for my New Year’s resolutions, which will be my next post.  2009 was kind of a wild ride, and I’m aiming for more stability in 2010.

January

January started off kind of rough, as I was battling a kidney infection, turning out not to be a great snowboarder (despite Jake’s attempts to get me to enjoy it), and financial woes (hey, what else is new, the recession was in full swing).  The big highlight was the Dooney & Burke wallet that Jake’s mom got me in a failed attempt to manipulate me into getting him to make up with her.  I loooove this wallet and still admire it on a practically daily basis. The Great Recession and Your Romantic Relationship

On Wednesday I got to go to yet another training…this one was actually an all-day professional development conference for staff at our institution.  Two of the presentations (e-mail in the workplace and locavore/plant-based eating) were disappointing, not because I’m not interested in the topics but because the speakers were terrible.

However, the “Recession-Proofing Your Personal Relationships” and the “Women Don’t Negotiate, But They Should” presentations were pretty rockin’.  So, here I am, passing all my rockin’ new knowledge on to you!  This entry is inspired by the value I got out of the “Recession-Proofing” presentation, and I’ll do one on negotiations next week. What I Want vs. What I Want

All righty, peeps – I am about to ask your advice about something which has me genuinely torn, and while it doesn’t directly affect my relationship, it certainly has all sorts of possibilities to do so.  The reason I’m torn is because I feel like there are two things I want more or less equally, and in some ways they are intertwined and in others they are in direct competition with each other.

Home Ownership is for Suckers

All right, Me Thinks posted another awesome comment on my Our Financial Philosophy post and Lance chimed in as well…the interwebs stole my first attempt at a comment, and then my rewrite of it was long enough to be a blog post, so here it is!  It doesn’t have anything to do with relationships, really, except that this is something that I feel REALLY strongly about and if you do too (one way or the other) then it’s a good thing to be aware of while you’re dating.

Owning a home is for suckers. Continued

Happy New Year: Best Of Honey and Lance 2008

Well, after ruining Thanksgiving on purpose (by having my wisdom teeth removed) and then ruining Christmas by accident (by thinking that I could cure my UTI on my own only to have things go horribly, horribly wrong) my first goal for 2009 is to not be in any pain or on any unpleasant medications during any of the major holidays!  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

But other than those two extremely unfortunate events, 2008 was a very good year.  Lance and I have really enjoyed getting this site off the ground and becoming part of such a thoughtful, diverse community.  So let’s start off the new year by appreciating the old, shall we?  Without further ado, the best of Honey and Lance 2008!

Finances and Dating

With the entire economy basically imploding around us, the question becomes even more relevant: what kind of financial shape does someone have to be in to be considered a desirable partner?  I find money one of the most interesting conversational topics around and am always sad that it’s considered impolite to inquire too closely about others’ finances for a couple reasons: 1) I think that if we talked about it more among ourselves, many of us would learn a lot and not make as many financial mistakes, and 2) I’m a nosey biatch and want to know what everyone’s up to.
