Hey everyone! I’ve been off in a little reflective mode lately, as I mentioned in my sort-of New Year’s Resolutions post that I was going to be taking stock of my life and making a conscious effort to do the things that make me happiest. The thinking part gummed up my blogging mojo for a bit, but I decided that it was time to report on my progress in some different areas. Continued

Lance and I talk a lot about compromise – what it means to adapt your own interactions to cater to someone else’s love style, for example, or being supportive of your partner’s desire for a dog even though you hate them. Here’s another example of Honey and Jake: Compromise in Action.
Jake hates household chores.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, right? Is there anyone out there who likes household chores? I can think of one friend, but only one. Continued
Similar to dadshouse’s entry on how a woman he met online didn’t want to meet up for a hike on a first date, Lance’s date refused to come over and let him cook dinner for her at his house. Like DM, Lance is frustrated by the fact that women feel unsafe in their initial encounters, largely because it either leads to “sipping Bud Lights while we stare at each other across tabletops and play word games and play dress up” (Lance) or “coffee dates, those fact-finding information exchanges that modern singles embrace as necessities like college-bound kids taking the SAT” (DM).
Where do you, the readers, draw the line? Continued
Last night I decided to create a surprise for Jake when he got home. It was all inspired by these fancy cupcakes that were on sale at Fry’s. I don’t eat sweets, but Jake loves them, so I got him a layered, frosted, cream-filled German chocolate piece of deliciousness.
Sunday, he’d taken some wild turbot fillets out of the freezer. I am always leery when he does this, as he has a hectic schedule and doesn’t cook very often (and I am also sort of opposed to eating fish at home and don’t like that he even buys it). But by Tuesday, it was clear: cook the fish tonight or it was going to go bad.
So I used a citrus rub that he’d bought recently, some olive oil, and some fresh lemons to create a marinade. I broiled it for 5 minutes a side and then put it on a bed of quinoa flavored with shallots, garlic, and leeks as well as a “chicken” vegan bouillon, and served it with what is probably the last of this season’s fresh corn on the cob.
So, for the first time in my life, I took a paid vacation where I did absolutely not a single productive thing – and it was totally delightful! I knew I was going to Colorado to visit a friend and her new baby for 5 days, but thought that once I got back I’d write a billion Honey and Lance posts, balance my checkbook, clean the house…not a bit of it.
I did cook two of my specialty dinners (cheese enchiladas one night and baked tofu on another), but aside from that I watched ridiculous amounts of TV, masturbated, and had sex with the BF four times over the weekend. Now I know that for a stud like Lance that’s apparently nothing, but that’s about as frequently as the BF and I can do it without a UTI, a yeast infection, or a kidney infection, so it’ll have to do. What with the BF’s horrible overworked-ness lately, it’s a recent record for us in any case. I’m a thrilled and satisfied girl.
Now for a few pics of where I was for the last week: Continued
Lots of fun things going on right now for me! First of all, I received my diploma in the mail – so it’s Dr. Honey to you!!! Very exciting.
In celebration, I threw away the 5 full drafts of my dissertation with my committee members’ feedback that I’d been saving “just in case.” The BF noticed the giant box was gone out of the middle of our living room when he got home, and was very pleased. I
have some other things that can probably be thrown away now, as well (chapter drafts, my proposal stuff, some comprehensive exams drafts and notes) but they’re currently “away” so it’s not as urgent. Continued
