Well, after ruining Thanksgiving on purpose (by having my wisdom teeth removed) and then ruining Christmas by accident (by thinking that I could cure my UTI on my own only to have things go horribly, horribly wrong) my first goal for 2009 is to not be in any pain or on any unpleasant medications during any of the major holidays! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
But other than those two extremely unfortunate events, 2008 was a very good year. Lance and I have really enjoyed getting this site off the ground and becoming part of such a thoughtful, diverse community. So let’s start off the new year by appreciating the old, shall we? Without further ado, the best of Honey and Lance 2008!

So, in case you didn’t know, I won the First Date contest over on Dad’s House! Check out DM’s original post with the contest parameters (plus all the awesome comments left by his readers) as well as his follow-up post with an analysis of all the fabulous entries (plus links, of course).
I enjoy the writing, the sarcasm, and the brutal honesty of DM’s blog, and I’m totally stoked to win a $25 Amazon eCard (which I will probably spend on the next books in George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series, as I just read the first two of the series as part of my vow to the BF to Make The Most Of My Unemployment). Yes, you heard right, I read fantasy novels. What of it?
Even if you’re not unemployed with scads of free time like me (that is, when I’m not driving my boyfriend to the Emergency Room because he has kidney stones), check out all of the entries, linked in his follow-up post. They range from the practical to the laugh-out-loud hilarious, especially my fine entry, here. Okay, okay, check out Lance’s entry while you’re at it. Any post that contains the phrase “fuck like wildebeasts” is worth the read, even if he did spell wildebeest wrong.
Is 5:30 in the afternoon too early for a beer? Not if it’s a self-congratulatory beer!!! Peace out, peeps.

I’m fired up, people. Kudos to everyone who wrote in for the contest. We had a blast with it. Here’s the weekly shout-outs to everyone who participated. May your traffic increase 10 fold and you get a zillion new subscribers.
Your Kickass Contest winner, David Mott from the Dad’s House blog, really kicked ass. See his post, There’s an order to a single parent’s relationship universe. Not only will you get David’s take on relationships, but he blogs about online dating, parenting, and he’ll even throw food and drink recipes in there. Also, he uses the word booty frequently, which has caused me to add the word back into my daily lexicon.

Update: A couple of bloggers emailed us and said they wanted to participate but were traveling thru the weekend…this includes Honey and myself (not that we’re eligible for prizes). Thus, we’re extending the contest deadline until Wednesday, April 9. Feel free to jump in.
Okay, people, here’s the deal. We’re holding our first contest. I’m holding the 1st place prize in my nimble little fingers:
Yes, that’s a $25 gift card from Borders. Redeemable at any Borders Store or online. Modest, I know, but that’s what we got. Pick up that new Eckhart Tolle book you’ve been eyeing.
Second prize is a $15 amazon.com gift certificate, which gets emailed to you.
So the contest is really simple. We’re looking for your take on a relationship question. Respondents can leave their advice/take/perspective in the comments section of this post. If you’re a blogger, feel free to post the response on your own blog and drop the link in our comments. As always, we’re looking for real deal advice, interesting perspectives, and the straight dope. Any embedded stories of wanton sex and extraordinary jackassery will, of course, get special consideration.
Feel free to respond to the comments by using the reply to this comment feature. The point of the contest is to get a bunch of different perspectives in one place and get people
flaming communicating with one another. We’ve invited a number of our blogging colleagues to join the fray, to include dating advice columnists, married folk, social artists, and regular people who have interesting opinions.
Honey and I will judge. And by judge I mean pick based on a purely subjective basis. Contest closes on Monday, April 7. We’ll announce a winner next week.
Here’s the question:
“How do you define successful relationships, and what does it take to achieve that success?”
