So I was put in the somewhat strange position of acting as a wingwoman for a friend while out on a date with the BF. As I think I mentioned, I won $440 at the casino and had decided to use some of the money on a Roku (which works exactly as advertised and we absolutely love it), some on my hair (which looks fabulous–the cut was just a trim but the color is probably the best I’ve ever had it done), and some to take the BF out to dinner at Stingray Sushi in Scottsdale. This was since he a) loves sushi, b) just spoiled me for my own birthday not long ago, and c) he bought a new Blackberry for work and it’s left him a little strapped.
Dinner at Stingray is excellent, and then on the way back to the car we’re debating the various merits of staying out for a few drinks since we’re in a nicer area of town and we don’t go out nearly as often as we used to (not because of lame-couple-itis, but because of having-a-job-and-getting-old-itis).

We end up at Dos Gringos, partly because it is a fun bar but largely because our car is parked right in front of it, and decide to text some friends and see if they want to come out. We employ the last-minute text quite a bit because a) you look like you have an awesome social life and those at home feel lame, b) hardly anyone ever comes because they are all getting old and have jobs too, so you don’t have to be as “on” as you think you will, and c) you get friendship bonus points for thinking of them. I have a fuck buddy. Just thought I’d get personal for a couple of posts. I picked her up at a bar a couple of months ago. I know what you’re thinking…Lance picked up a skeezy ho, screwed her six ways till Sunday, and is jerking her around. Um, no. I have to say, she’s a cool chick and I’ve developed the relationship into a really nice little friends-with-benefits situation. Here’s what I did. This is part 1 where I describe the meet and pickup. Here’s part 2 and part 3.
Also, see this related post on how to set up a long distance fuck buddy.
So I’m cruising through the grocery store with a work friend and we’re both waxing poetic about how we could care less about Valentine’s Day (we’re single). And we’re not just saying that, we actually feel perfectly good about ourselves and we’re looking forward to a V-Day without significant others. Seriously. Was it always this way? Nope. Why is it now? Good question.
I’ve had plenty of V-Day’s with girlfriends and a couple without them. The ones WITH girlfriends I did a lot of bitching because of the pressure to come up with a good date, spending the money, blah blah blah. I also enjoyed spending time with my gf and I usually enjoyed the date. Somewhere in the recesses of my pimping heart I like the pomp and circumstance of a romantic date. Don’t let that get around.
