I love weddings!! Mine was the best day of my life, truly!! Make a budget and stick to it and reward yourself when you do…it can be done!
Would you post the Excel spreadsheet that you made for budgeting? My hubby and I are in desperate need of a budget and I’m sto lost on how to dive into this!

Congrats! I tend to agree with the Vegas wedding thing. Or maybe a small wedding on a beach somewhere with a reception/party for friends and family when you get home. Big weddings=ugh for me. Okay, okay I’ll admit it. Weddings=ugh for me period. That’s just me though. Yours will be fabulous I’m sure, whatever you decide.

Oh, Hammer, surprisingly we are of one mind on this! I have suggested that as well and been shot down. What I am thinking is that by the date we’ve picked we won’t live in AZ anymore so it will already BE a destination wedding for our friends/family in this area and at that point, why not just pick whatever location we want and have folks come (or not) if they choose? Fingers crossed….

The compromise is a destination wedding. People who want to be there can come, people who don’t have a great excuse. Then you can just throw a party when you get back to the states.

My main strategy (with most men, actually) is to just repeat myself until they say it back like it’s their idea and then (rather than point out the fact that I’ve said that 5000 times) say “great idea!” So I’ll keep pushing the elope idea and see what happens. Boy would my dad be relieved – if we have a regular wedding I don’t think he’ll even come (he hates to travel).

I literally never thought about a wedding in my life until the BF started talking about it. The ring, yes. Being married, yes. The rest of it? Not so much, though since learning how important it is to him, I’ve gotten a little addicted to “Say Yes to the Dress.”

It took me 2 years to talk him out of getting married in a church. Hello, we’re ATHEISTS! He’s BIG on tradition, and once his credit cards are paid off then we should easily be able to save $30K in a year (in fact $30K is a pretty common bonus amount on top of salary in his field), so I don’t think it’ll be a problem.

But if he DOES change his mind, that’s fine with me!

Na, tell him to stop being a pussy, that’s ridiculous. I can almost understand if you’re the one pushing for it, since women aren’t rational and many of them have been having wet dreams about their wedding day since the age of 4, but he needs to man up. Big weddings are only okay in my mind if you have fuck you money to drop on it, which obviously isn’t your situation.
