Stomp, Anniversaries, Obama, and Vacations

It’s been a whirlwind week!  Here’s what’s going on in Honey-land.

Stomp

At my recommendation (I’d seen it before), I took the BF to see Stomp.  If you haven’t seen this show, which includes a variety of dancing, percussion, and comedy (despite no dialogue) I highly recommend it.  The show was sold-out and a great experience, PLUS I wore a really cleavage-revealing dress that, in the BF’s words, “made me giggle” because he gets to openly ogle them.  (This was obviously part of the plan.  I’d put edible glitter on them, after all!).

Anniversary

Yesterday was our three-year anniversary – woohoo!  I always get a kick out of remembering our first date, and here’s something that I didn’t share there – I was supposed to be the BF’s practice date.  See, I was his first official date after breaking up with the girl he’d been dating for over three years, and he also knew that he was going to be moving over 100 miles away less than a week after our meeting.

He thought to himself, what are the odds that I’ll even have a good time on the date?  It’ll be good practice for after I move back to Phoenix and really start dating. So he figured that he’d use me as his confidence builder and never see me again – no harm, no foul.  Problem was, halfway through our date we were clicking so well he knew that he wanted to see me again.  We managed to squeeze in three dates, some hot sex, and the “exclusivity” talk in the 5 days before he moved.  Wowza!

Anyway, for our anniversary this year we ate at House of Tricks.  We shared a cheese and fruit plate (somehow I never realized how well blue cheese goes with strawberries before!) and then I had homemade gazpacho with creme fresh and a green apple, candied pecan, and blue cheese salad while the BF had “everything spiced ahi tuna.”  Check out the menu here – delish!  Considering this place is less than a 10-minute walk from where I work, I think I will be treating myself, with or without him, a lot more often.  We had beer but they have a phenomenal wine list and it’s probably only a $5 cab ride home in the inevitable case of overindulgence.

Obama

Well, as you may have heard, Obama is ASU’s commencement speaker.  I got a ticket but decided not to go because a) there are going to be over 70,000 people there and it’s going to be a general nightmare, b) you have to get there five hours before it starts and sit in a concrete bleacher in the sun next to those 70,000 people and you can’t bring in water or an umbrella, and c) at the last minute we got word that the university was closing at 2 p.m. and so I could go home.

Woot!  I’ll watch it in the air conditioning of my own home for that price.  I kept my ticket, though, for my scrapbook!

And – bonus – the BF called in sick to work today (he was just overtired and I’m always reminding him to call in sick when this happens because last year when he tried to work through it he got a kidney stone).  So when I got home he was here and now we get to hang out on a weekday afternoon, which never happens.  Hooray!

Vacation

Plus we are leaving for Vegas next Thursday and will come back either Sunday night or Monday, depending on whether we decide to change our flight or our hotel reservation.  I am super stoked because this is the first time I am bringing more than $100 in gambling money and I want to try some of the games that I have been afraid to play because you need a bit of a bankroll to do them right.  Very exciting!  Also our first trip with my best friend and her husband – if this goes well then we will probably try a Europe trip eventually.

So that’s the news in Honey-land.  What’s the news with you?

Stomp are making it out this way shortly, I’ve been tossing it around in my mind whether or not to see them; you may have tipped the scales!

You lost me at “blue cheese with strawberries”, though. I don’t understand how you could put together something that tastes great with something that tastes like moldy socks and have it be teh_ossum.

The news with me is that I’m flabbergasted about how f’ing bad EVERY college graduation speaker has been that I’ve been to. I think I’ve attended like six college graduations, and they’ve all been like former presidents of universities or something. Not the CURRENT president. My graduation was seriously ruined by the speaker. I was hung over out of my mind and probably wouldn’t have listened even if Obama was there, but the point is that I always hear of these awesome people speaking but I haven’t been so lucky. Here’s an idea – just bring in a random funny person from a random place. Like second rate comedians, for example. They should work college graduations exclusively. That would be sick.

Your first date with BF sounds the opposite of a recent Chemistry.com date I just blogged about. We had heady conversation, but there just wasn’t any click!

Stomp is great. I took my kids to see it, and we all loved it.

I’ve been wanting to see Stomp – I guess I should get off my ass and actually do it, eh?

    Congrats on graduation!

I just love the fact that you were his “practice date.” Amazing.

Happy Anniversary! You truly are a relationship expert now, Honey.

I love that I was his practice date, too, SMS! He told me a couple of years later that he wore lifts on our first date because he’s only 5’7″ or 5’8″ and wanted to feel tall and confident…then when he actually liked me he knew he couldn’t wear them indefinitely but was all insecure that I’d notice he was suddenly an inch and a half shorter!

    That always cracks me up.

Happy anniversary to you and the BF! : )

BTW, I’m insanely jealous of your Obama ticket (even if you’re not going) and will just have to daydream about him even more than usual now, hahaha.

P.S. – My college graduation speaker was totally lame. Boo!

No News from me… I am a boring person :-P

Have fun in Vegas, looking forward to hearing stories from there, hehe.

    Till then,
