Job Interview & Other Updates
By Honey on Dec 11, 2009 in Life
My job interview for the faculty position was Thursday, and while it’s very tough (for me, anyway) to gauge people’s reactions when I can’t see them, I can say that I dropped the names I wanted to drop, mentioned the aspects of my skills I wanted to mention, and we’ll see what happens! When I e-mailed my dissertation chair and told him about the interview, he immediately cleared space in his schedule so we could chat on the phone, nail down my talking points, and practice some questions, and it was definitely a big help.
They say they’ll get back to me in a week or two and let me know if I’m advancing on to the next round or not. I’m solid either way because 1) it was such an unbelievable coup to get interviewed at all that I’m riding high, and 2) if I don’t advance then it means that Jake is free to look for a job out of state in the new year. Either outcome is pretty awesome by me!
In other news, it’s been super cold here (haha, I mean under 40 in the mornings, though there was actually frost on my car today!) and this has meant lots of Honey & Jake snuggling, which has led to other things…hey, I’ll take it, though I imagine that his grandmother never imagined all the dirty deeds that her handmade quilt would witness
Sometime between now and Christmas I officially become Jake’s longest relationship (he’s been my longest for some time now). We’re totally stoked and I have even heard him bragging about setting the date when he didn’t know I was listening, which I think is totally sweet.
And we’ve mostly nailed down our Vegas itinerary – can’t wait! Love that place…happily, I just received a $100 check I received for some consulting work I did for Mensa and that is going straight into the “Honey learns how to play craps” fund…
Not much else to report here except that I am going to a friend’s tonight for drinks…he got a kegerator full of Blue Moon (which I think is what we had to drink on our first official date at Fiddler’s Green, right, Lance?). I’m bringing some oranges and some Grammar-opoly, a board game I invented as an undergrad (don’t worry, my friend requested that I bring it, I don’t subject people to the biggest extremes of my dorkiness unless they ask for it!). Slainte!
