If You Think You Have A UTI, Go To the Doctor!

So, this post will be brief and explain my (regretable, I’m sure you all agree) absence from the blogosphere of late.  Remember last week, when I thought I had a UTI and then offered home remedies on how to fix it?

Well, no dice.

It went underground and resurfaced that Friday in the form of lower back pain, which I thought was weird but which went away after about an hour.  Then Saturday it was back…all weekend.  I didn’t want to go to the ER, so I waited until Monday and went to the doctor.

I have a kidney infection.  I feel awful.  I’ve missed the last two days of work, but not in a fun, pre-Christmas, let’s party way – in a don’t eat anything, moan on the couch way.  I am on antibiotics and some other things for the symptoms now, but I still feel it quite a bit.  I tried to eat twice yesterday and couldn’t, so today I settled for some chocolate soymilk.

Ugh.  I should’ve just gone to the doctor…

I didn’t realize you hadn’t gone to a doctor! Yes, you must, must, MUST go to a doctor when you have a UTI. This is so important – most women don’t realize that you can do significant damage to your kidneys. My mother actually lost a kidney to ignoring a UTI. I’ve had my share of kidney infections, and they are not a walk in the park and can have lasting effects on your kidneys.

Do the home remedies, but also check in with your gyno or family doctor. UTIs can travel quickly left untreated.

Ouch, ouch, oh ouch! I hope you feel much better now. I have been where you are so I wholly empathise! Drink shedloads of water, always pee within 15 minutes after sex, wipe front to back, and yeah…go to the doctor. UTI’s start out minor and flare up horribly! Big hugs x
