Get Fit and Improve Your Dating Prospects

This is a guest post from Jackie, aka The Girl With No Name. Jackie is a popular video blogger based in Vancouver, Canada, and she specializes in fitness and achieving fitness at home. She’s also a fantastic Twitterer and her stream was so popular that she won the 2009 Shorty Award for best sports Tweets–beating out @lancearmstrong! I’ve been communicating with Jackie over Twitter and email for a couple of months now and I finally managed to pry a guest post out of her. True to form, this is a vlog that reviews some awesome tips for working out at home and why getting in fantastic shape will help you improve your dating prospects. Enjoy.

So you date. Do you date at the level you’d like to date? And by that I mean are the people showing interest in you as hot as you’d like? If not, well I know one very solid way to raise your game. Get fit!! Seriously kids, it raises your confidence level as well as your physical appearance. And are hot guys and hot babes ever attracted to confident, fit people.

Ok, so you say “Oh, but I hate the gym. I can’t afford the gym… blah blah blah…” Well sorry, your excuses suck!! And here’s why. I hate going to the gym too. I mean really hate it. Big muscle-heads powering me out of their way, smelly guys who haven’t bathed in days sweating it out, equipment that is never free when I need it, friends who only want to yak their heads off making my workout twice as long listening to their incessant chatter? Right. Hate it. So, I don’t go. I’m fit. As a matter of fact, I’m VERY fit. And I got this way without ever stepping foot in a gym.

Take a look at the video. I show you how you can get fit at home, even if your space is extremely small (like mine is).

So listen kids, get the hell off your couch and get rocking with the weight stack. You won’t regret it, trust me. And next time that hot guy or hot babe looks your way and smiles you’ll even thank me!!

You know, the reality is she is definitely right, you do have to be fit to step up your game and future potentials in the dating world. The fact is most girls/guys and yes even the ones that are not hot, are not looking for somebody that is out of shape. I don’t mean to offend when I say this… I have a guy friend who is on the obese level, and has been single his entire life, he is currently 24. The funny thing is this… When I suggest to him to ask a girl out, he will him self call someone “eww”, the girl might be decent looking but shes over weight, just like he is. Do you get the pattern? We naturally want to date good looking people, its just human instinct. There are a few out there that might not think this way, but the reality is most people want to date good looking people. Anyways that friend of mine probably won’t be dating anytime soon unless he either starts working out and gets into shape, or lowers his standards to match his own level.

You know… Sometimes you can’t really control what you look like as there are some features of your body that you really can’t do anything about, but getting yourself into shape, is something you totally have control over, and really is if you truly want to date who you want to do, you need to stay or get in shape, to give you the best possible chance at success. And besides… you should be getting fit in the first place to live longer.

    Till then

PS: I don’t mean to offend anyone!

Like she says, it is not JUST about looks, it is also about confidence. But more than that, it is also about lifestyle and personality. People who are fit project an image of not being a gym-rat, but of being active. When I date someone, I evaluate them not on how fast they can run a 5k, but would they ENJOY running the turkey trot with me. Can they do it, just for fun, no wining if I ask? No “I hate running.” No “I don’t know.” Fitness projects personality, not athleticism, which is why I can’t date someone who is not fit.

Hi Guys!! Thanks for the comments… I’m glad you guys “get it”… I was also a bit worried about ‘offending’ if my intention wasn’t clear. However, I can’t emphasize enough one point: When I was out of shape, I wasn’t necessarily FAT, I covered it well with clothing (it was an extra 20lbs, not an extra 200lbs) but the difference in my CONFIDENCE level is ENORMOUS! Out of shape, I wouldn’t even try to meet people because my confidence was in the ditch… I didn’t believe I was someone anyone would really want to be with (especially once we got to ‘naked’ stage). In shape, I actually INITIATE the flirt on occasion. I still look almost identical in clothing but its the attitude that exudes out of someone who cares enough about themselves to take proper care of themselves that is that ‘indefinable something’ (attitude & confidence) that people find attractive and drawn to.

thanks again for the awesome comments!!

I couldn’t agree more. I had no idea how much a little excess weight was dragging me down until I got rid of it, and suddenly I felt confident and fabulous. Feeling better about myself has bled into so many other aspects of my life, and I’m so glad I decided to take action and improve my health/appearance.

Girl With No Name – Great post – you look amazing!

@Girlwithnoname, your video was fantastic! I think if anyone is offended by the video, they really need to analyze themselves and be more truthful to themselves, if they are offended they are likely out of shape themselves, more than likely REALLY out of shape, and not just by 20 pounds or anything like that. You are right about the confidence aspect, when I used to be on the track team, about 2 years ago, that was when I felt my best and when I had the most confidence, because I was in the best physical shape of my life. I am not at the level that I was 2 years ago, since I am no longer on the track team, but your video gives me the motivation to go back to the level I once was at. I also enjoyed seeing some of your work out routine in the video that you demonstrated to us. You really were great in the video! I hope you do another guest post =D

wow, thanks Randy. I do the occasional demo over on my own blog too… its all video, so feel free to pop by once in a while for more motivation. I’m always honoured to hear that my words or ideas inspire or motivate others to get rocking with their own workouts/diets to improve their health … or dating status!! LOL

    thanks again

“And besides… you should be getting fit in the first place to live longer.”

Would you like some hot buttered toast to go with that can of worms?

How is that quote going to open a can of worms Janak?

  • Janak

You are presupposing that “living longer” is inherently meritorious/a good. That’s an assertion that’s up for debate, not an irrefutable fact.

Yeah I guess I could see how that would upset some people, although I thought the other things I said would upset and offend way more than that, lol.

    Till then,

It’s sociological, too. It’s not just about being thin or looking like you do 4732981472193 squats a day, it’s about projecting the image of health. Sociologically, features that are deemed attractive (long, thick hair, clear skin, white teeth, etc.) are features that show off healthiness. Healthiness means you’ll have fit, healthy and attractive kids, so that’s why it subconsciously comes into play in the dating field.

Everyone gets bent out of shape about something, I guess “Life is Good” is just one of my buttons, hah.

Getting fit is not some magical solution to all your relationship problems. But it can definitly boost your confidence which helps in every aspect of your life. Plus you will look better.

I just started working out FIVE DAYS A WEEK!…wow…I’m doing it so I can have my pick of almost any man I want. I know that once I’ve reached my goal, I will be an 8/9 easy…without make-up.

This post hits home on so many levels. 1st of all, I HATE working out! I’m doing it now because I want to improve the overall quality of my life…really! Over the past few years, I have suffered severe illnesses and a car accident…all of which caused me to be sedentary and gain weight. So, now I have some work to do!

I also monitor the things i eat…very important!

This post is GREAT!!!! Thank you :-)

I absolutely agree that being fit raises your confidence. You’re also able to enjoy sex more (well, gals for sure), because you’re not freaking out about how you look naked.

But, if you have confidence and are an arrogant, entitled, self-absorbed hottie, well, it’s all show and no substance, know what I mean?
