A Typical Date With Lance and Why Intimacy Matters on First Dates

Following up on Honey’s post about safety and my post about keeping it real, I wanted to lay out how I generally do first dates. Much of this involves strategies and tactics that I learned from studying pickup. Keep an open mind, especially if you’re a chick, because this will sound off-putting at first. I’ll draw some conclusions and give recommendations at the end. This post does not cover bar pickups, day game, or other quick seduction methods.

Keeping it Real vs. Playing the Game

I recently asked a question on the Ask Penelope group on brazencareerist.com:

Will a girl come over to my house for dinner on a first date? Versus meeting for drinks? I’m trying to keep it real and skip the BS.

How Safe is Too Safe? Or, Lance Blows Up Brazen Careerist

So, Lance blew up the comments in the “Ask Penelope Trunk!” chatter section – check it out on Brazen Careerist, and then sign up if you didn’t after reading his review of the updated site.

Similar to dadshouse’s entry on how a woman he met online didn’t want to meet up for a hike on a first date, Lance’s date refused to come over and let him cook dinner for her at his house.  Like DM, Lance is frustrated by the fact that women feel unsafe in their initial encounters, largely because it either leads to “sipping Bud Lights while we stare at each other across tabletops and play word games and play dress up” (Lance) or “coffee dates, those fact-finding information exchanges that modern singles embrace as necessities like college-bound kids taking the SAT” (DM).

New iPhone Stalkerware Makes Me Want to Yak

People, please. This is getting a little out of hand. A company called Intelius has gotten a little too clever for their own good and developed an app that lets women go super stalkery on their male dates. The app is called Date Check, which checks for criminal record, net worth, living status (married or single) and various personal details that are pulled from social media sites. The app, when it’s released later this fall, will be free to download but will cost you money to run the checks.
