So, as I’ve mentioned before (though not super recently), Jake and I set the date: May 12, 2012. We’ve already made some decisions:
- The wedding favors will be M&M’s with our initials
- Jake’s in charge of the cake
We were discussing engagement rings recently because I’d sent him an article from The Atlantic about how shady and terrible and manipulative the diamond industry is, and and we basically decided that it wasn’t an industry we wanted to support. Then we had the following e-mail exchange: Continued

Lest you think it’s all having your clothes ripped off and having hot sex all night, I thought I would share a couple vignettes that are fairly representative of Jake and I.
#1: Why Bother to Do It Yourself?
It’s 7:17 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. I have already showered, brushed my teeth, etc. and am in the closet choosing my outfit for the day. The door to our walk-in closet is in the bathroom, so although I’m not far from the bedroom in actual distance, I am two rooms away.
I hear Jake call, “Baby, what time is it?”
I yell back through the two closed doors, “I’m in the closet, and you’re lying on the bed with a clock on either side of you.”
He replies, “But I’m not wearing my contacts, so I’d have to turn my head and squint!”
Yes. Clearly it is easier for me to come in from another room, put my head right next to his head, and read the clock to him from 1.5 feet away. Continued

Holy cow. This is brilliant. Three robbers stuck up a nice couple in a parking lot over the weekend, then one of the robbers, Stephfon Bennett, age 20, returned to the couple’s apartment, knocked on the door, and asked out the chick. That is some shitty game. First off, what kind of name is Stephfon? Secondly, robbing someone and then asking out the chick never works. Bennett is currently locked up in a county jail for aggravated assault. Broski, I have two words for you: Match.com.
“We are not exactly sure what he was thinking at the time,” said Columbus police Sgt. Shaun Laird.

I recently joined the gym again, which means that I’ve been coming home all sweaty. In some cases, this hasn’t been an indicator that I’ve been hitting the cardio hard (I’ve yet to do that). In fact, I’ve been mostly focusing on yoga and pilates (yesterday was my first pilates class and wow! my abs are sore today).
Sadly, the sweaty has been a combination of the movement I have been doing at the gym (it was a fast-paced yoga class, so there was some cardio) and the fact that it’s still like 105 here every day. Ugh.
In any case, last week I got home from the gym; Jake was home and followed me to the bedroom while telling me about his day. Then I took my clothes off. Continued

In case you didn’t know, Honey and I are both part of the Brazen Careerist network, which we both love. Up until a few weeks ago, Brazen was a blog network on steroids comprised of young professionals between the ages of 20 – 30 (ie Generation Y), but they recently re-launched themselves as a full-on social network and online tool for jobseekers and headhunters. The focus of the revamped Brazen is now around “ideas,” that is, instead of highlighting experience, which recent college graduates likely don’t have, the emphasis is on the ideas and content that the individual users are producing.
The Good: This is a cool idea that is going to appeal to Gen Y’ers who are looking to network with other 20-somethings who love to write and share ideas on the Internet. Don’t have a job or unsatisfied at being a corporate drone at age 25? Brazen is perfect for you because the network is full of folks exactly like that and there is a TON of content being produced around related themes. Continued

As I’ve mentioned before, Jake and I have quite a bit of student loan and credit card debt. I have less debt than he does overall, but proportionally to each of our incomes we owe about the same.
One of the things that sucks the most about paying off debt is that once you’ve done all the big stuff you can (for example, in February we moved into a house a little more than half the size of our previous place, and we also shuffled around our credit cards so he could get better interest rates – my rates were already pretty awesome) then it’s just a whole lot of sitting and waiting for the paying it off part to be done. Which, in our case, means years. Sucky. However, we have made a bit of progress in this area lately due to some windfalls.
