Vegetarian Update: Hallucinations, Blindness, Loss of MoTOr COntr0L

cartoon_food_st5

Ahhhh! This whole vegetarian experiment is just making me angry!! This is by far the hardest month-long experiment I’ve ever done, much harder than when I quit drinking or abstained from sex. Oops, wasn’t supposed to mention that last part.

Busy, Good Things

This will probably be a pretty anticlimactic post after yesterday’s post on stay at home moms (don’t forget to check out the huge Brazen debate that I took part in…), but I just wanted to let you all know what’s going on in my life!  Things have been extremely hectic.  I finished revising my dissertation and turned it in, so now all that stands between me and my PhD is paperwork.  Awesome!  I can’t wait to have the diploma…and my boyfriend can’t wait to call me Dr. Honey!

Also, as I mentioned, we’re moving.  It goes down this Saturday…I’ve arranged for Friday and Monday to be furlough days but I am basically going to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off during that time and won’t be able to post (won’t even have internet!) for a couple days at least. What’s Wrong with Sleeping Your Way to the Top?

Penelope Trunk wrote a thought provoking post yesterday titled When women get power at work, do they use it like men? In it she described meeting an attractive 25-year-old male who she sleeps with and eventually dates. They are in related fields and, since she is well positioned as a career advice guru, she ponders the ethical implications of helping the guy find a job. Also, there is a bit of an age gap (according to her wiki she is 42 ), so she thinks that may be an issue.

It’s a great post, one that intersects work, love, and life, and it’s well worth reading. I love the post because a) it’s pretty hot, and b) it’s complicated and doesn’t fit into any traditional relationship type. There’s even a smattering of pickup in there for you PUA types.

Here’s my take. Continued

Watchmen is Totally Rad…Why are the Critics Such Douches?

I caught the midnight showing of the new Watchmen movie. On IMAX. It was absolutety awesome. It’s getting canned by a lot of reviewers and I think they’re all douchebags. It’s hovering around 65% on the Tomatometer on rottentomatoes.com, including some hate from my fav reviewers at the Boston Globe and the Times. WTF people, this film is friggin’ genius. Get a clue! I think it’s far superior to any of the comic book flicks from recent years, including X-Men, Spider-Man, and yes even the latest Batman film. In fact, this is the movie that The Dark Knight should have been. Yeah, I said it. I just slapped Dark Knight. I was moved and I’ve read the graphic novel like 10 times.

I’m Going Vegetarian For A Month (WTF?!)

steak1I’m going vegetarian for the month of March. No, seriously, I am. I’m a big nasty meat eater, so this is a big deal for me. There were two factors that persuaded me to try it:

  1. Honey’s post about National Justice for Animals Week.
  2. We had a guest speaker at my sports club recently and he spoke a lot about nutrition, and in particular, dietary habits for sports performance. As part of that, he explained in graphic terms why he would only eat beef from free roaming cows. I was pretty grossed out to hear how regular cows are treated and fed, so this pushed me over the edge.

I figured I would try it for at least a month and see how it affected my energy levels, training, and competitive performance. For the hardcore vegans out there, I realize a month is pretty weak, especially considering I’m still eating fish and eggs, but hey you got to start somewhere. Don’t hate. Continued
